Where are we to date September 2008:
As can be seen the Old Mart has now changed quite
significantly since the Maud Village Trust started
developments.
The community Service Centre has been in use
now for over a year and our two main tenants, namely Buchan IT
and E-Learning Services (Bites) and Buchan Dial-a-Community Bus
(BDACB) are operating successful businesses. Other units are
being rented on a short term basis, but we are always interested
in new tenant as we still have units to rent. The café project
is on the way and we hope to have it up and running early in the
new year.
The Community Resource Centre is still in the
construction phase and completion is anticipated by the end of
October. This centre will provide medical and social service
facilities for the community, was named by the local Primary
School and will be called The Old Mart Community Resource
Centre. One of the features of the centre will be a gymnasium
which will be open the community to use.
The gardens completed last year and with plants maturing it a
very pleasant and attractive feature to the village, that helped
Maud to come second in the Village in Bloom competition this
year.
Cornerstone has been completed their accommodation building and
have taken up residence earlier in the year.
It was decided earlier in the last year to
pull down the old ring building. demolition has been completed
and the area cleared giving the site a much better appearance.
A feasibility study was carried out, by the
Buchan Development Partnership, on the undeveloped parts of the
site with funds received from the Big Lottery. The suggestion
from that study were threefold, 1) Housing – Scottish Government
“Rural Homes for Rent” Scheme 2) Landscaping and Play equipment
3) Village Green, Heritage and Events. We have put in a noted
interest in the Government Scheme and await the out come of
that. It was however decided that we would explore the
suggestion of landscaping and extending the Community Centre car
park . This would be a short term solution that would give us
the opportunity to redevelop the land in the future, but improve
the look of the site in the meantime.
